My name is melody joy welton (I like my name better in lower case) and I have lived in Seoul, South Korea since August 2009.
I went from teaching English in the public schools to a second grade classroom at an international school where all of my students already KNOW English (it’s amazing). In August 2012 I will start a new adventure at a different international school. I started this blog six months into my stay here in Korea to keep my family and friends updated, and it has turned into something so much more for me. I have discovered the blogging world to be one full of so much creativity.
I live for my faith in God and adventure. I love learning about different cultures and making friends. I love to be unexpected and surprise people. I am proof that you should not judge a book by its cover (though sadly I myself have done so many, many times).
I come from a family of nine children (four boys, five girls) and growing up in a house full of love and lots of people has defined who I am today.
My enthusiasm inspires people, my enthusiasm scares people. Get to know me and you will be glad you did.

Just some more stuff about me!
(It used to be my must. have. more. tab… but I am consolidating so feel no need to keep reading, I just like to talk, and write…)
If I wake up three minutes before my alarm goes off, I try to go back to sleep. Every minute counts.
I am really good at tetris, like really good. I am also amazingly talented at wii boxing (discovered that little tidbit while visiting friends in Norway), the things I can do.
I constantly forget to put deodorant on. oops. no one has told me I smell… at least to my face.
I enjoy going for a bike ride on a sunny day almost as much as going to church, and that is saying something… Because I love Jesus the most.
My favorite kind of music is the kind that makes you want to DANCE.
If you are ever on the subway system in Seoul, South Korea and you see a 5’2” (okay FINE, 1 and 1/2”) brunette woman in her twenties dancing and singing along to her iPod (mostly silently singing, I will have you know) that is MOST DEFINITELY me.
After 8 years in the restaurant business I will never, EVER, EVER, be a waitress again. EVER.
I am saving the discovery that is traveling Europe to do with my hubby (who doesn’t actually exist yet… or he does because if he wasn’t born that would be weird/not okay, I just mean in my life at this present time).
Since the beginning of my twenties, I have always wished my life was a musical. Luckily for the world, I cannot sing (I know, I see the irony that my name is Melody, yes this is SO HILARIOUS…)
I tend to take myself very un-seriously (word?) if you can’t laugh at yourself, you probably don’t laugh much. And that, my friends, is sad. SO LAUGH!
I actually wore really big pink hoop earrings at one point in my life, and not just once.
I am clumsy, there is no other way to describe it. I am constantly running into things, tripping over my own feet, and throwing food around while I eat. You learn to love it.
I want to adopt a fully grown, potty trained child.
I gave up coca-cola on April 29th, 2010.
I have been bungee jumping in Africa, next step- skydiving (Asia?).
My absolute favorite activity is laughing. Preferably with family and friends. My laugh cannot be described, something you just have to experience. Also something you have to learn to love.
My all time favorite talk show is Ellen Degeneres, now there is one funny lady. I don’t actually watch the show, but when I randomly search youtube clips, I always laugh.
When I was little I was grounded from reading. I love to read. Hence, the inspiration tab on my blog.
My favorite role on the stage was my junior year of high school. I played the Wicked Witch of the West. I was pretty convincing, children cried. It was awesome.
I think I love being from a big family the most out of all my siblings, and they probably wouldn’t argue me on that. But that could be because I am almost a yellow orange green purple blue brown red have my BLACK belt in taekwondo. Hear me roar.
I have my white, yellow, orange, green, purple, blue, brown, red, black belt in taekwondo (as stated before, but it worth mentioning twice!).
I love to make presents, finding that perfect gift is one thing- but actually making it with your own hands, gold.
Since moving to Korea I have become addicted to K-Pop and Korean Dramas, my goal here is to find a star and befriend them. Or get my picture with them, I would be happy with either/both.
I don’t take my friendships lightly, I try to appreciate every person who gives time to live life with me, and I strive to be the best friend that I can be.
My first job was when I was 15 at a drive-thru only restaurant called “Get-Em-N-Go”, it is now a parking lot.
I love Africa. Specifically South Africa because I lived there, but I will see more and love it too.
I played the clarinet for 8 years. I was the drum major in my high school marching band. I marched at University. Band geek? Heck yes.
I am still not exactly sure what I want to be when I grow up, but the list of options is long.
My dad is the best man I have ever known.
