here’s to another 36 years mom and dad!

hello.

A couple days ago my parents celebrated their 36 wedding anniversary. They got married in 1975. That even SOUNDS COOL. I mean 1975? I don’t know why, but I just love those numbers, making up that year. This is all besides the point really.

My unnie (sorry, Korea is infiltrating me, that is “older sister” all of my brothers -besides Josh- would say “noona” I just love that word… “noona” also… besides the point) wrote an AMAZING blog post about my parents. I read it, and realized she captured it beyond perfect. So instead of telling you how amazing my parents are in my words, please check out:

My Unnie’s Post.

I don’t know if my sister mentions that my parents produced writers as well, but after reading this post you will realize that most definitely did! I love, LOVE, where I come from.

(the picture in the post is one I took… just to grab photo credit^^ totally unashamed, I LOVE PICTURES!)

what the great, great, great, grandchildren say…

My church recently started a monthly Bible study. At the beginning of October we had our very first meeting. Before we met we were asked to read the book of Genesis and to write down any revelations and questions we had.

Pastor John-Michael (J.M.) led this Bible study and revealed more to me about the beginning of creation (through studying and research of his own, other well-known theories, and the revelation of God) than I have ever heard, thought about, or learned in my 26 years of living. The ninety minute study was much too SHORT to digest the entire book of Genesis… but we did our best.

At one point J.M. asked us all to focus on the lineage listed in Genesis 5. He started with Adam and gave us the meanings for each name following. Adam means “man“, Adam’s son Seth’s name means “appointed“, Enosh means “mortal“, Kenan means “sorrow“, Mahalel means “the blessed God“, Jared means “shall come down“, Enoch means “teaching“, Methuselah means “his death will bring“, Lamech means “sorrow” (yes, a different name still meaning sorrow), Noah means “comfort.”

And that is where they end the line of lineage in chapter 5. Now do me a favor and read that paragraph again, only this time, JUST read the meanings of the names. J.M. had one person read aloud these meanings during the study, and about the time Kelly got to “shall come down” there was a collective gasped across the room. “Study the old testament guys,” J.M. replied. “Jesus is all over it.”

For those of you who might be confused let me put the bold words side by side:

“Man appointed mortal sorrow the blessed God shall come down teaching his death will bring sorrow comfort.”

put THAT in your back pocket!

shadow games

recess duty. every teacher at my school has to do it… twice a week.

It’s not too bad, I love to see the students create games to play when they get bored with tag on our large, fake, green field, or braiding their hair, or playing soccer (just kidding, the boys never get sick of soccer). The other day, two second graders were screaming and chasing each other, in what looked like a crazy sporadic chasing pattern across the grass… an odd way to play tag since they weren’t touching each other and still screaming when they got close.

Then, being the college-educated student (who is working towards her masters) that I am… I figured it out. They were chasing each others shadows and trying to step on each other’s head. hehe, I am totally going to play that game the next time I go to the park with my friends.

sprinting towards my black belt

At times when I have no time and I neglect my blog, I feel like I am ignoring a friend. Is that weird?

Over the past couple of weeks I have gotten into the habit of randomly sprinting. Not for very long mind you, I am talking about sprinting to the bus from my apartment, or down the hall to the bathroom, I just…. like it. I have been a teeny tiny bit stressed and its a nice way to let out my crazy. I wish I could turn those sprints into actual runs. I think I would like that. Being healthy, exercising regularly… one of these days.

Is it weird that I am so happy on the Fridays I don’t have to go to grad school because it means I don’t have to rush out of work? This week I brought in a watermelon. I had to prove to my students that watermelons have seeds (as written about on my class blog) because they thought that they did not.

Guess what else I did this week?

Due to my sprained tendon, I had to use my left arm to do the hand break, but I did it!

My favorite kick, the spin hook kick! This is me winding up.

Nailed it!

Charlotte got her green belt! And yes, I am wearing a red one!!! Next step, black belt. Wow. I can’t believe I am so close.
